{television} the sarah silverman program (2007)

Wildly popular comedian Sarah Silverman stars in this Comedy Central series as a character named Sarah Silverman whose ordinary life often veers into surreal and hilarious territory. As her adventures are revealed through scripted scenes, animation and musical numbers, Sarah relies on her sister (played by real-life sister Laura Silverman), her gay neighbors (Brian Posehn and Steve Agee) and a local cop (Jay Johnston) to keep her in line.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** This was better than I thought it was going to be, but still kind of stupid at times, but often funny so I'm torn. I gave it three stars because I'm still not really a big fan of Sarah Silverman of her brand of comedy, but this was very funny at times. Her comedy still just seems too forced to me sometimes, but this show was all right.

The forced, uncomfortable aspect of Silveran's humor is part of her appeal to her core fans (I count myself). She has the guts to "push the envelope" in ways that are well beyond what we're allowed in "polite company," she is not afraid to be a social irritant for the sake of a laugh.
