{television} hearts afire; season one (1992)

Senator's aide John Hartman (John Ritter) has spent his life playing by the rules, a strategy that seems to work for his professional life. But with a divorce under his belt, his personal life is lacking -- until carefree press secretary Georgie Lahti (Markie Post) comes into his life. This inside-the-beltway comedy proves that opposites attract, with a supporting cast that includes Ed Asner and Oscar-winner Billy Bob Thornton.

My rating: *** Well, while I love Designing Women more, this offering from Designing Women creators Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason, is funny and sentimental featuring the love story between the John Ritter and Markie Post characters in Washington, D.C. Billy Bob Thorton is funny in this show as, well, Billy Bob. And Ed Asner, as always, add a touch of class. George Gaynes as absent-minded Senator Smithers is hilarious. And Wendie Jo Sperber is funny as well in her supporting role. I just found out that she passed away from breast cancer in 2005 and I am shocked and saddened.
