{television} coach; season one (1989)

Coach Hayden Fox (Craig T. Nelson) lives for football, but his girlfriend (Shelley Fabares) and family don't -- fueling enough conflicts to drive eight seasons of this popular comedy series. In the opening season, the Screaming Eagles endure a long losing streak; Coach's daughter (Clare Carey) returns to attend college; and his ex-wife shows up for parents' weekend. Jerry Van Dyke and Bill Fagerbakke co-star.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** (Actually 2.5) I don't know. I thought it was, but I don't really love it. And I wanted to really like it. I have caught an episode here and there and thought they were all right and thought I would give the whole first season a chance. For the most part, it was just good background noise during work. There wasn't a single moment that made me laugh out loud. The stories weren't that interesting or original, or funny for that matter. The cast is just all right and just don't capture my interest. I don't really care one way or another how the stories turn out. Craig T. Nelson and Jerry Van Dyke are great, but the rest of the cast are just set dressing for the most part. Very disappointed. Hope it gets better in future seasons.
