{television} the new adventures of old christine; season one (2006)

Shedding the "'Seinfeld' curse," Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns to prime-time comedy with a vengeance in an Emmy-winning role as divorced mom Christine Campbell. With her own business to run and a third-grader to raise, she manages to stay afloat thanks in part to the friendly relationship she shares with her ex (Clark Gregg) -- that is, until he starts dating a much younger woman, coincidentally also named Christine.

ifreethought.com rating: **** They don't make mid-season replacements like this any more. Mid-season replacements aren't certified hits anymore, normally just crappy reality show to fill the space between the cancellation of a fall show and another summer reality show. This show is amazing. Julia Louie Dreyfus is AMAZING in her role as Christine. This show seems like the reinvention of the modern sitcom. This show is quickly paced with lots of funny content. In an age of the dying sitcom, this show is the genre's life support system and, if sitcoms don't turn around soon, could eventually be the only one left on network primetime television. And Wanda Sykes, as always, is HILARIOUS!
