{television} charmed; season five (2002)

The sexiest witches of the West are back, casting spells while trying to live somewhat normal lives. Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) and Cole deal with their marital problems, Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Leo try to protect their unborn baby from evil forces, and Paige (Rose McGowan) juggles a new job as a social worker. On the supernatural side, the Charmed Ones have to face off with leprechauns, demons and shapeshifters who bring out their worst fears.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** The fifth season of Charmed started off a little slow. I absolutely hated the mermaid themed season premier two-part movie. But by the middle of the season, especially the episodes The Importance of Being Phoebe and Centennial Charmed, it started to pick up again. However, after the baby was born the show started slipping again. Still a good show, but not as great as past seasons. While I normally enjoy the stand-alone episode format that WB asked of executive producer Brad Kern over the story arc structure he was using in season four, I only like it when the stories aren't sub-standard and weak.
