{television} greatest american hero; season one (1981)

It's fitting that an L.A. teacher, Ralph (William Katt), would be the one to experience an alien adventure befitting a Hollywood movie. That's exactly what happens to Ralph: While he's on a field trip, extraterrestrials give him a red suit with unusual powers. Reluctant to don it, he's convinced by an FBI agent (Robert Culp) to harness his heroic abilities, but the outfit takes some getting used to, as evidenced by this hilarious first season.

ireviewnetflix.com: ** Wow, this one was painful at times. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't stand it and suffered through almost every episode. After a horrible pilot, which would have been better suited as one episode instead of two episodes, I continued the suffering because I just wanted to believe that it would get better. It had some moments as Ralph grew into being a superhero, but other than that the lame stories just didn't help in the examination of a normal man becoming a superhero. I'm really shocked that it even lasted two seasons. It's a nice premise that I actually wouldn't mind seeing "re-imagined" like they did with Battlestar Galactica. It was mostly background noise during work.
