{television} 3 lbs. (2006)
Executive producer Peter Ocko's provocative medical drama follows the careers of successful neurosurgeons Doug Hanson (Stanley Tucci) and Jonathan Singer (Mark Feuerstein), who have divergent philosophies about the human mind. While the antisocial Hanson sees the brain as nothing more than an object to be studied, Singer makes the patients top priority. The show's cast also includes Armando Riesco, Indira Varma and Griffin Dunne.
ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** I was a little worried when I saw a visible boom mic in frame in the first 5 minutes of the pilot episode. Did no one see it? It couldn't be digitally edited out before airing? Once we got over that little snafu, the show was pretty good. However, the same could not be said for the cast...they were great. especially Mark Feuerstein who is such an amazing actor (one of my top ten favorites), but just can't seem to get attached to a winner. Fired Up, Conrad Bloom, and Good Morning, Miami were all failures (even though I LOVED Fired Up and Good Morning, Miami actually last 1.5 seasons before getting the ax). Stanley Tucci, as always, is gold. Indira Varma shows great promise. While this was a good show, I can understand why it was cancelled, but not sure why so quick. I think if it had been given more time to gain an audience, it might have been successful. 3 Lbs., was a midseason replacement for the failed Smith, starring Ray Liotta, which was also cancelled after only 3 aired episodes. CBS showed the remaining episodes of Smith online and I hope they do the same with 3 Lbs.
