{television} smallville; season one (2001)

A young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) struggles with normal adolescent issues -- along with figuring out just how to deal with the puzzling powers he now possesses and the oddly devilish goings-on in Smallville, the tiny Kansas town where he lives. Taking up most of his time, however, is his affection for the stunning Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk). This six-disc set contains all 21 episodes from the first season of the television series.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** There were a few good episodes, but overall I'm not hooked nor am I that impressed. There are only a couple of standout episodes, but overall it's just all right. I hope the series grows beyond the overly melodramatic Clark-Lana, Clark-Lex, etc., storylines, but I don't hold out much hope for that. Overall it's mostly background noise. "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher was far superior. At least in that show there were some comic elements. The only elements I found interesting were the Clark vs. freak of the week scenes. The best episode of the season was "Leech," the episode where Clark lost his powers. Great episode. Also, the season finale was vastly superior to the rest of the season and left me wanting more.
