{television} lucky louie; season one (2006)

A postmodern take on "The Honeymooners," this explicit HBO sitcom stars its creator, Emmy-winning comedy writer Louis C.K., as hapless mechanic Louie. He works part time at a muffler shop, while his wife, Kim (Pamela Adlon), brings home the bacon as a full-time registered nurse. Louie spends his days minding the couple's rambunctious preschooler, Lucy (Kelly Gould), and hanging out with various friends and relatives.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** The show is all right and there are some very funny moments, but overall it was just all right. It started kind of rough and was hard for me to get into and it wasn't until I adjusted to the type of in your face comedy that you would never see on network sitcomes was I able to get into it. I'm not surprised that this show only lasted one season as I just couldn't connect with it. Like I said, it was all right, but not great. Plus, I just couldn't get into the cast. Everytime I hear Pamela Adlon speak I hear Bobby Hill from The King of the Hill. Louis C.K., is surprisingly good, but Laura Kightlinger is horrible. She's a great writer and great at stand up comedy, but he acting ability is lacking. The best episode was "A Mugging Story" where Kim got mugged by a black kid. The funniest moment was Lucy dancing to Khia's "My Neck, My Back". The show did get better as it went on.
