{television} northern exposure; season one (1990)

It went on to win seven Emmies, but the first season of this quirky CBS drama was all about getting to know the colorful citizens of tiny Cicely, Alaska, through the eyes of recently arrived New Yorker Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow). From feisty Maggie (Janine Turner) to pragmatic Holling (John Cullum), idealistic Chris (John Corbett) and stoic Marilyn (Elaine Miles), the denizens of Cicely help give Fleischman a new perspective on life.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** This show would totally work today. The characters have depth, the stories have heart, and the dialogue is as quick and witty as any episode of Grey's Anatomy. While I loved the start of the season, it did fall off a bit towards the end of the season, but I'm looking forward to the second season. By the way, someone should tell Netflix that the plural of Emmy is Emmys not Emmies.
