{television} nypd blue; season one (1993)

This groundbreaking TV cop show introduced several immortal characters -- namely, detectives Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) and John Kelly (David Caruso), two guys who definitely don't play by the rules. A heady mix of nudity and foul language woven seamlessly into intriguing storylines, this long-running, Emmy Award-winning series raised more than a few eyebrows as it tackled vigilante violence, homosexuality and prostitution.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** The show started out REALLY slow, but about 6 or 7 episodes in, I really got into the storylines and the characters. There was a bit too much interpersonal drama (which took me awhile to get into) and the individual cases investigated were boring sometimes. I prefer shows like CSI where the cases take center stage and the interpersonal drama is a delicately interwoven afterthought that builds slowly over time. The casting is great and the acting is wonderful. Overall this is a very good show and I look forward to the second season.
