{movie} cobb (1994)

Sports reporter Al Stump (Robert Wuhl) is working on a plum assignment: a biography of the larger-than-life Detroit Tiger baseball player Ty Cobb (Tommy Lee Jones). But his dream quickly degenerates into a nightmare when he discovers that his hero is racist, self-centered and far from heroic. What is the truth about Ty Cobb? And should Al reveal it to the rest of the world?

ireviewnetflix.com rating: ** I'm a passive baseball fan. I enjoy the game, but don't follow it that closely. I didn't know anything about Ty Cobb, aside from hearing his name in baseball history, and didn't even know that a movie had been made about him. An incredible athlete, but what a horrible human being. Tommy Lee Jones is wonderful as the hateful Cobb. However, the movie focuses too much on Stump's collection of material and his time with Cobb and not on Cobb's life and rise to fame.
