{movie} network (1976)

Paddy Chayefsky predicted today's rash of trash television and shock-laden news broadcasts. The writer of Marty created network news anchor Howard Beale (Peter Finch), who loses his mind on the air. Unfortunately, his outrageous rants boost the ratings and intrigue cutthroat network executives Faye Dunaway and Robert Duvall. William Holden contrasts their avarice as an old-school TV journalist hopelessly out of step.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** A '70s movie about '70s network news. However, not much has changed. As a matter of fact, if anything, this movie predicted much of today's network news broadcasts and television. If it bleeds, it leads. Robert Duvall, Faye Dunaway, and Peter Finch are all wonderful as is the story, the script, and the characters. Plus, this movie features one of the all-time classic movie moments and lines: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."
