{movie} rocky (1975)

Gritty, grim and epic, Rocky is the real deal, a crowd pleaser with a less-than-storybook ending. When Muhammad Ali-esque boxing champ Carl Weathers wants to give a nobody a shot at the title as a publicity stunt, his handlers pick palooka Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Rocky won the 1976 Best Picture Oscar thanks to John Avildsen's solid direction and Stallone's root-for-the-underdog script.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** This movie was obviously made to appeal to both men and women, and boy did it ever. The love story for the women and the epic sports story for the men. Burgess Meredith shines as Rocky's trainer and Talia Shire (who is actually Francis Ford Coppola's sister) is wonderful as Rocky's love interest Adrian. It's a good movie. Not great in my opinion because the boxing bored me. But the love story beween Rocky and Adrian is nice.
