{movie} westworld (1973)

Take off on the vacation of your dreams and wake up to your worst nightmare! From Jurassic Park creator Michael Crichton comes this sci-fi thriller about a Wild West Fantasyland where amazingly life-like androids look, act and talk like the real thing... until something goes horribly wrong. Starring Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin and James Brolin, and bristling with "excellent special effects" (Box Office), Westworld is a hi-tech, futuristic, edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller that will leave you breathless. Peter Martin (Benjamin) and John Blane (Brolin) are two businessmen enjoying the ultimate frontier excursion. But when a programming error causes the town's "residents" to turn deadly, the two must square off against a strong-willed, steely-eyed, automated gunslinger (Brynner) who's determined to bring their vacation to a murderous conclusion.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** Screw Jurassic Park, this is the ultimate theme park. Romanworld, Medievalworld, and the titular Westworld. I watched this on Netflix's Watch Now based on the recommendation of my mother and sometimes it pays to listen to your mother as this was a great movie. I was pleasantly surprised. While I'm not a fan of the wild west AT ALL, this was an interesting take on it and people's fascination with the wild west and amusement parks, neither of which I understand. Now if only they would release the follow-up Futureworld on DVD.
