{movie} zoom: academy for superheroes (2006)

Funnyman Tim Allen heads the cast as an out-of-practice superhero who used to turn heads as the flashy Captain Zoom. When a secret agency recruits Allen to turn a motley crop of teens into the next generation of good guys, he'll have to get back in shape first. Courteney Cox and Rip Torn provide support in director Peter Hewitt's fantasy comedy based on Jason Lethcoe's graphic novel Zoom's Academy for the Super Gifted.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: ** Tim Allen can generally make these movie at least somewhat bearable, but this one was pretty bad. The supporting cast, both kids and adults (including Courtney Cox, Chevy Chase, and Rip Torn) are weak and are only further handicapped by an even weaker story. And the Smash Mouth soundtrack is annoying at best. It's sad how a top ten pop rock band has gone from Billboard to doing the soundtracks to these really bad kid movies. Maybe more Kevin Zegers (Concussion) would have helped as he's really hot.
