{television} family ties; season one (1982)

Steven and Elyse Keaton (Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter), 1960s-era flower children turned Reagan-era suburbanites, struggle to raise their three distinctly different kids: Alex the Republican, ultraconsumer Mallory and Jennifer the tomboy. One of the most popular sitcoms of the '80s, the show launched Michael J. Fox into superstardom. This collection includes every episode from the inaugural season, including the pilot.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: **** Liberal parents and a conservative son make television magic. This was a great show which covered a wide array of topics in it's first season in a serious yet comical way. Episodes that stand out deal with unplanned pregnancy, gun control, and a very special two-part appearance by Tom Hanks as Uncle Ned. The cast is wonderful (minus the annoying Tina Yothers) and the episodes are great.
