{television} studio sixty from the sunset strip; season one (2006)

Entertainment moguls, eccentric comedians and corporate politics detonate in this behind-the-scenes drama about a popular late-night comedy sketch show. Emmy Award-winning producers Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme provide a cynical view of neurotic on-air talent and egomaniacal, uptight network execs. Matthew Perry ("Friends") and Bradley Whitford ("The West Wing") lead the ensemble cast as creative team Matt Albie and Danny Tripp.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: **** Another great show from Aaron Sorkin. It's not as great as The West Wing, but almost. Studio 60 features a solid cast telling solid stories and I love the dramatized behind the scenes look at an SNL-type show. Bradley Whitford is as amazing in this as he was in West Wing which I guess means he's just amazing. Matthew Perry is also very good. And I love that out lesbian Sarah Paulson is playing the religious Harriet Hayes. DL Hughley, Steven Weber, Timothy Busfield, and Nathan Corddry round out the incredible ensemble cast. Seeing Christine Lahti, Ed Asner, and John Goodman in various guest roles was also enjoyable. I hope it gets a second season, but it doesn't look like it will.
