{television} ugly betty; season one (2006)

With a mouthful of metal and a healthy build, Queens, N.Y.-bred Betty (America Ferrera, in a Golden Globe-winning role) may not look the part of a fashionista, but she's determined to inhabit that world. Betty's dream comes true when the head of a new magazine (Eric Mabius) hires her as his assistant. Soon plain Betty has charmed her boss -- and much of the fashion world -- with her can-do spirit and smarts in this Golden Globe winner for Best TV Comedy.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: **** The entire cast is wonderful and the episodes are always entertaining and hilarious. America Ferrera is fantastic as the easily lovable Betty. Alan Dale is once again wonderful as the man you love to hate. Ashley Jensen is a breath of fresh air and I hope we see more of her both in Ugly Betty and in movies and other television shows in America. Mark Indelicato is a little genius as the flamboyantly gay Justin Suarez. Ana Ortiz is great as his mother Hilda Suarez. Vanessa Williams is wonderful as the evil Wilhelmina Slater and her assistant portrayed by Michael Urie has some priceless moments. It's also great to see Judith Light again. This show always has me laughing and I'm glad it was renewed for a second season.
