{television} the future is wild (2003)

Looking 5 million, 100 million and 200 million years into the future, a team of scientists tries to predict what Earth could be like if civilization as we know it is wiped out by massive climate and geographic changes. Each of the discs presents a different stage -- Ice World, Hothouse World and New World -- brought to life with a combination of animation and real locations predictions about ice ages, new creature names and places, and more.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: ** This kind of reminded me of the Minority Report. For the production of Minority Report, the producers brought in scientists to determine, as best they could, what the world of the future would be like in 50 years. But while they can approximate where we might be in 50 years, it's really no better than educated guess work. Same thing with this series. It's a potential future. Hell, even the producers of this series couldn't agree. Based on research and interviews with dozens of scientists, this documentary was put together to show how life could evolve in the future if Homo sapiens became extinct; the Discovery Channel broadcast softened the harsh outlook by stating the human race had completely migrated from the Earth and had sent back probes to examine the progress of life on Earth. It was decent. I'm not really into nature shows and a futuristic nature show was just only slightly interesting. I was glad the episodes were only 30 minutes, which made it easier to sit through.
