{television] ken burns' civil war (1990)

This documentary masterpiece from Ken Burns depicts the strategies and action of famous Civil War battles, and relates the stories of generals, field soldiers, politicians, heroes and a beleaguered president. The Emmy-winning miniseries begins by looking at the factors that led to the firing on Fort Sumter, and covers specific notable battles, climaxing with Lee's surrender and Lincoln's assassination.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** Not a bad documentary featuring one of my least favorite wars historically, but a war that I'm starting to have more respect and interest in as I get older and begin to understand it's not only national, but global impact. My favorite war, from a historical interest standpoint, has always been World War II. This Ken Burns documentary series is quite long, but presents the war in a simple and easily understandable yet almost too detailed way. All the information is wonderful, but the documentary series does run too long. The best moments are the beginning and the end, the start and the end of the war. The series as a whole was better than I thought it was going to be.
