{television} the venture bros.; season one (2003)

Part of the Cartoon Network's edgy Adult Swim programming, this cartoon parodies 1960s adventure characters such as Jonny Quest and the Hardy Boys. Twins Hank and Dean think they're gifted, but they're really idiots. Their renowned but failed scientist dad, Doctor Venture, considers them an embarrassment and constantly pops "diet pills" to ease his pain. Macho bodyguard Brock Sampson follows the boys around the globe, continually rescuing them.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** I wasn't a fan of either The Hardy Boys or Jonny Quest, both of which this show mocks, and wasn't expecting much from this show. I'm not a huge fan of the animated genre either and while this isn't the best animated show I've ever seen, this little Cartoon Network gem was surprisingly enjoyable. This show has many enjoyable elements and some great comic moments. By the end of the first season I found myself really liking the show and wanting to see the second season. The villain Monarch is certainly the best part of this show. And of course any show with Patrick Warburton, perhaps the most recognized voice in television, is all right with me.
