{movie} outlaugh: the best of queer comedy (2007)

A crop of talented gay comedians come together to poke fun at same-sex stereotypes in this collection of highlights culled from the Outlaugh comedy festival, which was held for the first time in 2005. Featured jokesters include Lea DeLaria, Page Hurwitz, Karen Ripley, Jason Stuart, Mark Davis, Sabrina Matthews, Andre Kelley, Jerry Calumn, Stephanie Howard, Charlie Vaughn and members of the Gay Mafia comedy troupe.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: ** This one was difficult. I really wanted to like it and I normally love stand up comedy, but these are c-list gay comedians and not even the funniest that gay comedy has to offer. The content was decent, but overall the collection of comedians weren't that great. The clips are too short and I would have much rather seen the entire routine, then again, maybe not. Lea DeLaria is just not that funny and I was kind of disappointed because I had heard good things about her. She's just an angry, fat little man, oops, I mean lesbian. Sorry about that. The rest were just all right. The only one I had ever heard of before was Sabrina Matthews, who I enjoyed, but aside from her, the rest mostly unknown c-list gay comedians. Bob Smith was the biggest surprise and I really enjoyed his comedy. Page Hurwitz, Jason Stuart, and Stephanie Howard were also funny. The worst were the comedy troops The Gay Mafia and The Nellie Olesons.
