{television} airwolf; season one (1984)

Playing maverick chopper pilot Stringfellow Hawke, Jan-Michael Vincent heads the cast of this classic 1980s action series, which features Ernest Borgnine as Hawke's friend and occasionally cranky mentor. At the behest of the Firm -- a clandestine CIA division headed by "Archangel" (Alex Cord) -- Hawke flies covert missions in a high-tech attack helicopter boasting tremendous firepower. Included are 10 episodes plus the pilot film.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: * I'm just not into these action military type shows. There's a lot of action here, but not much substance, typical of the 80s guy action drama genre. This was probably my least favorite Bellsario project. I just don't know how the show lasted three years. It was just a different time then, I guess. And I guess the show was cool and what America was into at the time. And what was America's facination with the military in the 80s? I'm just simply not into that kind of stuff. I'd rather have a story and drama more than military technology and blowing stuff up. I just couldn't get into the show at all and I gave up about four episodes in. Plus, what's the point of the little episode previews: so I know I wouldn't like the episode and move on to the next one which, based on the preview I knew I wouldn't like either? The only redeemable thing about this show is the cast. Bellsario knows how to cast a lead and Jan Michael Vincent was solid and Ernest Borgnine is always enjoyable and fun to watch. The theme song was also great. Just classic 80s stuff that isn't a part of television today. I would be checking out any future seasons of this show.
