{movie} edward ii (1992)

The new king of England, Edward II (Steven Waddington), finds his throne compromised when he brings his lover, Gaveston (Andrew Tiernan), into the picture. Enraged, the queen (Tilda Swinton) embarks on a plot to take down the king at all costs. Directed by Derek Jarman, this modern, gay-themed rumination on the classic Christopher Marlowe play features an appearance by music legend Annie Lennox performing "Ev'rytime We Say Goodbye."

ireviewnetflix.com rating: * This movie was doomed with me from the word go. I was interested in the gay element (duh!) but was disturbed by the postmodern style in which the film is staged. The sets, the clothing, everything is all over the place and plays very little to no attention to historical accuracy. The movie was actually too gay, in my opinion. It made it really trashy and ruined what is probably a very interesting historical story. The film is just all over the place. Not even Annie Lennox could save this horrible film.
