{movie} escape from new york (1981)

Soaring crime rates cause the United States to turn the city of New York into a maximum-security prison. Unfortunately for the president of the United States (Donald Pleasence), that's precisely where he lands when he's forced to bail out of a crashing Air Force One. Condemned criminal and former war hero Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) rescues the chief executive -- but the president must promise to grant Plissken his freedom in return.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** I was one year not thought of when this film was first released in theaters and saw it once when I was very young. I remember it not making much of an impact because years later I hardly remembered it. So, one boring, rainy Saturday evening I decided to reintroduce myself to the John Carpenter classic. While it has it's moments, overall it was just all right. Kurt Russell is solid as Snake Plissken and the rest of the cast does well in their limited roles as the misfit prisoners inhabiting Manhattan Island. There were parts of it I liked, but overall it was just all right. However, I am giving it extra kudos for featuring professional wrestling legend Ox Baker.
