{television} the dead zone; season five (2006)

As Season 5 of this series based on the Stephen King novel opens, reluctant psychic Johnny Smith (Anthony Michael Hall) is racing to stop a wedding he knows will have disastrous consequences. From there, the adventures continue as Johnny tries to prevent a fatal multicar collision he's foreseen, pursues a would-be vice presidential assassin, gets drawn into a bank robbery, helps investigate a hate crime and more.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: **** (Actually 3.5) The first three seasons were great, but something happened in the fourth season that made me worry about the future of the show, a consensus apparently shared across the viewing audience. My complaint last season was that there were too many standalone episodes (which was weird for me to say because I generally like standalone episodes, but most of the episodes in the fourth season standalone episodes were really weak). However, this season has some very strong standalone episodes that I really enjoyed. While some people still might not like the show because it's gotten away from the serial elements of the main story, I still enjoy the show and Anthony Michael Hall is still wonderful in the role.
