{movie} sydney white (2007)

In this quirky update on a classic fairy tale, freshman Sydney White (Amanda Bynes) pledges a once dignified sorority, only to find it has devolved into a nasty, backhanded clique. Disenchanted by the experience, Sydney takes up with a group of seven outcasts. Together with her band of merry misfits, she challenges the school's social hierarchy and looks to take down sorority president Rachel (Sara Paxton), the wicked campus villain.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: *** A modern retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, this movie took awhile to get to the point and was not as good as I was expecting given that this was supposed to be a "sequel" to the Hilary Duff success "A Cinderella Story." The build-up to the point took forever. However, Amanda Bynes is enjoyable as always. She just needs the right project to propel her to the top, but this wasn't the one. There was potential here though and she seems just about to break out of the Nickelodeon mold that's she's been in from the start of her career...on...Nickelodeon. But she seems poised to break out of that and shine as a wonderfully comic actress. Getting to see the gorgeous Matt Long made the movie bearable and seeing him shirtless made it heaven. :)
